Athletes are the core of our work, and Mandel Sporting Events partners with high-level athletes who support our cause. By promoting, advertising, and publicly supporting our work, they help show what it means to be an athlete philanthropist and why others in the sports community should also get involved.
Aleks is the Head Coach of the US Women's National Saber Team. He most recently was Team USA's Olympic Coach at the Paris 2024 Games and coached Eli Dershwitz in his 2023 World Championship victory. He is also a 7 time US National Champion, 5x Junior Olympic Champion, 2010 Junior World Championships Bronze Medalist, 2013 Pan Am Champion, 2x NCAA Individual Champion at Penn State, 2x NCAA Team Champion at Penn State, and a 4x 1st Team All-American at Penn State, 3x NCAA Champion Coach at Notre Dame and current NYU Saber Coach. At the end of his competitive career he was 24th ranked in Senior FIE points. Aleks is committed to using his positions and prestigious reputation/results to promote charitable causes that make the world a better place. We could not be more excited to be partnered with him!
Ziad is a 2021 and 2024 Olympic team member for Team Egypt and is currently ranked #1 in the world. He finished 4th place in the individual Men's Saber Event at the Paris Olympics and earned a Bronze Medal at the 2023 World Fencing Championships. In addition to his impressive career, Ziad loves to find ways to give back to the community and make the world a better place.
Shaul is a2021 and 2024 Olympic team member for Team Canada and has been on the Canadian National team since 2011, Shaul is a proponent of community outreach and development, and involves himself in driving positive change in his community.
Farès is a 2024 Olympic Team member for Team Canada currently the #1 ranked Saber fencer in Canada and defeated 3x Olympic Champion Aron Szilagyi in the Men's Individual Saber Event at the Paris Olympics. He has been a member of the Senior Canadian National Team since 2014 and previously the Junior Canadian National Team prior to that. Last year Farès placed top 16 in Senior World Championships, finished 5th place at Pan American Championships, and finished top 8 at the US 2022 January North American Cup. Farès will participate in Mandel Sporting Events in 2025 and years to come.
Jeff was an alternative on the 2012 US Men’s Saber Olympic team, the 2008 NCAA individual champion and achieved an FIE ranking of 22nd in the world. Jeff was also one of the original supporters of Mandel Sporting Events going all the way back to 2011 at our Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital series of tournaments and demonstration.
Will was a long-standing national Cadet and Junior national team member with 4 Junior/Cadet World Championship berths. He went on to be the Columbia University team captain during their 2015 NCAA Championship team title, a 4-time NCAA All-American and All-Ivy athlete and MVP Ivy League honors, a bronze medal performance at the Youth Olympic Games, and a consistent top 8 ranked athlete in the national Division 1 Men’s Saber standings. And like Jeff, Will was an early supporter of Mandel Sporting Events and has participated in Denver Fencing Center’s Firefly Open in 2019 and other Mandel Sporting Events to come.
Leanne finished 3rd place at the 2016 NCAA Championships; had a 1st place and 2nd place finish at the 2018 and 2019 December NAC respectively; and had a top international finish of 47th at the 2019 Cairo Senior World Cup. Leanne is passionate about breast cancer awareness and participated in the Mandel Sporting Events Colorado Cup #4 to raise money for the Gift of Hope.
Dawson was a member of the 2015 Cadet US Fencing team with a top national ranking of 8th in Division 1. He was also a starter for Columbia University where he competed in both Ivys and NCAA championships. Dawson has been closely involved with Mandel Sporting Events and currently supports operations and logistics of Northeast Operations and competed in the Mandel Sporting Events Colorado Cup #4 to raise money for the Gift of Hope.
Tommy is the 2022 Junior Olympics Men’s Saber Champion; finished 7th place at the 2022 January NAC Division 1 Men’s Saber Event; and a earned a Bronze medal at the 2021 December NAC Junior Men’s Saber Event. Tommy expressed a strong interest in getting involved in athletic philanthropy and spreading Mandel Sporting Events through the New England region.
